A Trip Down Memory Lane

A Trip Down Memory Lane
7 June, 2020

A trip down memory lane and the 2014 International Classic Bike Show, held at Stafford, with guest of honour, the sadly late John Surtees presenting the show awards. We won the "Best Trade Stand Display Award" which is voted for by the visiting public. A very proud moment indeed. He was a lovely man to meet, and I spoke to him on a number of occasions. He was the only man ever to become a World Champion on both two wheels and four. The banner in the background refers to his son, Henry, who was killed about two years before this in a freak racing car accident, and John had set up the foundation, as a charity in his son’s memory. John, in his 80’s when this picture was taken, had started off as a professional motorcycle racer during the early 1950‘s, riding for Norton, Gilera and many others, and he had a meteoric rise to the top, continuing this success until he formed his own racing team, before switching to F1. Many people think that he should have received a Knighthood.
